(Please scroll to the bottom of this page for a summary/schedule of events for the week.)

Palazzo Massarucci is located within an easy day trip of many popular destinations in Tuscany, Umbria, and surrounding hill towns. It is also an ideal place to relax, read, hike, and otherwise experience a quiet vacation.

Tyler and I will be arriving by car (From Rome) on Saturday, June 18th. We hope to arrive mid-morning and  get checked in and ready to receive by early afternoon. You should have received an email informing you that have been added to our wedding mailing list. Please use that to let us know your plans. We’ll use it to make room assignments, book any activities and generally keep in touch until we see you!  We want to keep an open schedule so that folks can plan their own vacations and come and go as they wish. The wedding ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 24 so it would be great if you could stick around for that, but we won’t have a bunch of wedding related events that people might feel obligated to attend.

We need to vacate the house on Saturday, June 25th.

Update: Our cooking lesson has been confirmed for Wednesday, June 22nd. It will begin at 3:30 and we will prepare dinner for everybody. The chef’s name is Carlo Clarici, he will bring the food and will have an assistant. How cool is that!?

Another activity we may wish to organize is a a local winery tour.  There is also golf and horseback riding nearby. The grounds are supposed to be beautiful for hiking. Below you’ll find some links to activities and destinations that may be of interest during your stay.

Bella Umbria

Interesting and informative Dutch Umbria Blog

Things to do in Umbria. This is a great calendar of events for the region. Includes local flea markets, street fairs and festivals.

A couple of nearby wineries that offer tours and tasting.

Colle Del Saraceno

Bocale

Spoleto

The medieval town of Spoleto is just a 30 minute drive from Macerino. One of the towns main attractions is Ponte delle Torri; a Roman era aqueduct and bridge that offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

Spoleto is (or was) the home of the world famous arts festival called Festival dei Due Mondi or The Festival of the Two Worlds which has a sister event in Charleston, SC.  Due to politics, the fate of the festival is in the air. For information about the controversy, click here.

Perugia

Perugia is the capital city of Umbria. It’s the artistic hub of the region and and is home to a monetary (San Pietro), the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, a National Archeological Museum (specializing in  Etruscan artifacts), a 3rd Century (B.C.)  Etruscan well, two universities (the infamous Amanda Knox was accused of  murder here) and a famous chocolate factory.

Rome

You’ve probably heard about this quaint Italian town. Legend has it that is took more than one day to build!

Major attractions:

Vatican City:  Home of St. Peter’s Basilica, The  Pope and Sistine Chapel

The Colosseum: Home of gladiatorial splendor, men in skirts and sandals.

Trevi Fountain: As seen in the films La Dolce Vita and Three Coins in a Fountain.

We all know there is probably more to see in Rome than can fit in a lifetime. I just wanted an excuse to include some fun pictures. If you are planning a day trip (or an expended trip) to Rome, I advice you research what you want to see ahead of time. But don’t forget to block yourself off  at least a few hours to simply roam (hehe) the streets or park yourself with a cappuccino and soak up a bit of one of the grandest cities in the world.
