Tyler and Mieka met the old fashioned way, through the internet!
She Said: “He had a little joke on his profile, ‘time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana’. It just tickled me in the right spot and in the right way. He also had a picture of himself from Halloween dressed up like a redneck rocker dude. He had on a mullet wig, a Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt and these horrible stars and stripes pants. I figured a guy who dresses like that in public can’t take himself too seriously.”
He Said: “I seem to remember saying, ‘well, you sound like a handful.’ And so far it seems I was right.”
The two exchanged emails and decided to arrange a meeting. A coffee date was proposed. The two met at Jimmy Bean’s, a restaurant in Berkeley. The two liked the looks of each other enough to order brunch instead of just coffee. They found that at the end of the meal, they STILL liked each other. Tyler and Mieka decided to take a walk. A very romantic walk to the parking lot of the race track and past the feral cat hideout. They came out the other end at the Albany Bulb, a park that was once landfill and is currently home to several homeless camps and a dog park. And they STILL liked each other!
On their second date (or first, depending on who you ask), the two went to see the band Red Meat at Cafe Du Nord. Things start to get all mushy here. Like kissing and stuff, yuck! Needless to say, things progressed apace and within 6 months, Tyler and Mieka began to search for a apartment that could hold BOTH of their book collections!
Three years, two apartments, one house, two cats, then one cat and one weird dog later; the two revisited The Albany Bulb. On that day, Tyler proposed marriage.

Ok, I’m going to admit it, I got all teary reading this. Just imagine what a mess I’m going to be at the wedding….your going to have to shout “I DO!!”over my sniveling sobs.
So that’s the rest of the story!
Feel that we know our nephew a little bit better now!
He’s a winner! We love you Mieka!
